Philip Tummescheit
Philip Tummescheit currently studies organ with Christopher Houlihan, artist-in-residence at Trinity College. His recent musical accomplishments include winning first prize in the 2025 L. Cameron Johnson Memorial Organ Competition (Storrs, Conn.) and participating in this summer’s Pipe Organ Encounter Advanced (Worcester, Mass.). Philip is a several-time recipient of the Jolidon Organ Lesson Scholarship, awarded by the Greater Hartford Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He currently plays organ part time for the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and was previously organist at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wethersfield, Connecticut, during which time he studied organ with Scott Lamlein. Philip plays the violin and piano, with a particular affinity for all things Bach. His love for the piano was inspired by Gloria Goddard Swanson, his grandmother, who gave him his first piano as well as his first lessons, and will always be his favorite impromptu duet partner. His favorite non-musical adventure last year was climbing Mount Washington barefoot.
Kalan Warusa
Kalan Warusa is currently a junior at McLean High School. He has studied piano from a young age and began organ lessons in 2023 as a student of David Boulware-Kelley. Having picked up the organ very quickly, he is now a Colleague of the AGO. He was the 1st prize winner at the 2025 UNCSA-Salem College High School Organ Competition and also received the Young Organist Award at the 2024 Baylor University High School Organ Competition.
This past summer, Kalan attended the Eastman Summer Organ Academy, where he had the opportunity to study with Nathan Laube and Christa Miller, play on a diverse array of instruments, and meet many fellow organists. He has also played in masterclasses with William Porter, Jens Korndörfer, Timothy Olson, and Ben Keseley.
Kalan is involved in the musical community at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, VA, where he studies and also occasionally plays for the congregation on Sundays.
