Katherine Johnson

Katherine Johnson, age 17, has been studying organ for five years, and is currently a student of Andrew Scanlon. In early 2014 she was awarded the American Guild Organists, Central NC Chapter's Cooper-Miller Organ Scholarship, which enabled her to attend a Pipe Organ Encounter in Delaware. She also received the Fisk prize, the Bach prize, and the hymn prize at the eighth annual East Carolina Musical Arts Education Foundation Young Artists Organ Competition. In March 2016, Katherine was awarded the first prize, Bach prize, and hymn prize at the Columbia, SC organ competition. She has performed solo recitals at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Hickory, NC; St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Wilson, NC; First Christian Church, Wilson, NC; and Church of the Good Shepherd, Rocky Mount, NC; and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Columbia, NC. She has also attended summer organ programs at Oklahoma University, Interlochen Arts Academy, Oberlin Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, and Curtis Institute of Music. She is currently the Cathee Huber Organ Scholar at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, NC. Katherine's former teachers are Phil Valera and Samantha Koch.
